This Japanese Maple a relatively slow growing tree, growing 1-2 ft a year. Mature height is 15-25 foot tall and 10-15 foot wide. Our Red Japanese Maples are grown from seed from the "Bloodgood" variety. They are selected for their bright/dark red leaf color. Since they are seeded and not grafted, they make an excellent bonsai tree, growing true to their red color even if pruned close to roots. Also an ideal choice for an specimen tree, or woodland under story in USDA zones 5-9.
Japanese maples should be protected from drying winds and direct sun in the Southern part of their range. More sun can be tolerated in Northern States. Good drainage is important, so do not plant in a low boggy area. Keep grass and weeds away from around the tree to reduce competition. Very tolerant to pruning.
