PollyO is a high-yield, blight-resistant hazelnut variety from Oregon State University, known for its large nuts. PollyO offers better quality and disease resistance than older types like Jefferson and Yamhill. These hazelnuts are resistant to filbert blight strains prevalent in the Pacific Northwest from Washington State through Northern California.  For blight-resistant hazelnut varieties for the Eastern US, see our listings for varieties from Rutgers University.

PollyO is ideal for blanched kernel markets (chocolates, baking) due to its excellent flavor. Use fresh or in baking. Good aroma, and easy skin removal. 'PollyO' requires a pollinizer like  McDonald for good nut production. PollyO is high-yielding, producing more nuts per tree than Jefferson or Yamhill. Suited for backyard or commercial production.

McDonald Hazelnut is a blight-resistant European hazelnut cultivar known for early, high-yield nuts, excellent flavor, and an easy-to-manage upright form (to 10-12 ft). McDonald is a a good pollinizer for PollyO. Nuts are small to medium size, have high kernel percentage (around 52%), and excellent flavor.
