Grand Traverse Hazelnut is a cold-hardy, disease-resistant hybrid (75% European, 25% Turkish). Has good tolerance for EFB (Eastern Filbert Blight).
Grand Traverse is prized for its large tasty nuts with high kernel yield. It grows as a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree in full sun, needing well-drained mildly acidic soil (pH 6.3-6.8). Reaches about 12' tall and wide. Grand Traverse requires a compatible pollinator like Raritan for good nut production.
Raritan Hazelnut is a high-yielding, blight-resistant Rutgers cultivar. It grows as an upright tree (15-20 ft) with round, tasty nuts, ideal for Eastern/Midwestern US areas. Nuts are medium-sized, round, high-quality kernels, good for the blanched marke.t
Raritan requires cross-pollination by a compatible pollinator like Grand Traverse for good nut production.

Plant hazelnuts in full sun, in a moist, rich, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.3-6.8. Can be managed as a large shrub or small tree (up to 10-12 ft tall).
Our hazelnut trees are produced from tissue culture to insure trees that are exact copies if their parents and totally disease free. Trees will be pruned to 24 inches to promote branch growth and shipped in a 36 inch box.

Hazelnuts abundant, early-season pollen feeds bees, and the plants host numerous moth/butterfly species, providing vital early food and habitat for pollinators and wildlife.
Hazelnuts can be pruned year-round. Thin root suckers to prevent thickets. Harvest in fall (Aug.-Oct) as soon as husks turn tan and split open. If you wait harvest later, wildlife will get nuts.
