Oceanspray (Holodiscus discolor)

A versatile, deciduous shrub native to western North America, thriving in USDA Zones 4-9. It prefers full sun to partial shade and adapts well to various well-draining soils, including rocky and sandy types, with a tolerance for slightly acidic to neutral pH levels (5.5-7.5). With moderate growth, it reaches 4-6 feet in height and width within five years, eventually maturing to 6-10 feet tall and wide. Known for its drought tolerance, erosion control properties, wind resistance and deer resistance.

Available as 12-24 inch tall 1 year old bare root plants.

Available to ship February 2025.

Oceanspray is a favorite for wildlife and native gardens, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its creamy white flower clusters bloom from late spring to early summer, adding subtle fragrance and visual appeal. The plant's reddish-brown bark exfoliates, providing winter interest, while the foliage transitions from green to golden brown in fall. Low maintenance and resilient, it is ideal for naturalistic plantings, hedgerows, and stabilizing slopes.
