 Japanese Stewartia (*Stewartia pseudocamellia*) 

A slow-growing, deciduous tree that thrives in USDA Zones 5 through 8. Preferring full sun to partial shade, it benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates. This species flourishes in moist, well-drained, organically rich soils with an acidic to neutral pH, requiring consistent moisture and protection from drought.

Available as 12 - 17” potted trees -Shipped fully rooted in soil in pot. Ships with leaves in Spring and Summer and dormant without leaves in Fall and Winter.

Over time, it reaches a mature height of 12 to 40 feet with a spread of 8 to 25 feet. Notable for its camellia-like white flowers with orange-yellow anthers in early summer, the tree also boasts dark green foliage that transforms into vibrant reds, oranges, and burgundies in the fall. Its exfoliating bark, revealing patches of gray, orange, and reddish-brown, adds significant winter interest. With low maintenance needs and minimal pruning requirements, the Japanese Stewartia serves as an excellent specimen tree, suitable for woodland gardens and mixed borders, offering year-round ornamental appeal.
