Styrax japonicus, Japanese Snowbell is a rather compact, graceful, deciduous flowering tree that works well near a patio, on an mound or hill, planted near a walkway, or use as a street tree.
Available as 14-24 inch potted trees -Year around or until sold out. Shipped fully rooted in soil in pot. Ships with leaves in Spring and Summer and dormant without leaves in Fall and Winter.
It also make an excellent bonsai tree because of its toughness, small leaves and abundance of flowers. Responds well to pruning.
Lightly fragrant, white, bell-shaped flowers cover the tree in late Spring hanging in abundance from the horizontal branches. In the Fall leaves turn yellow. Mature bark adds winter interest as fissures reveal an orange inner bark.
Grows slowly in organically rich, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade in USDA Zones 5-8. Part shade and hot wind protection needed in hot locations. Mature height can reach 20-30 feet tall and wide. Very good pest and disease resistance.
