Hyacinth Brodiaea (Triteleia hyacinthina)

Also called White Brodiaea. This spring-blooming, perennial corm is native to the grasslands, meadows, and open slopes of western North America. It thrives in full sun to light shade, preferring soils that are moist in the growth season (spring) and dry during dormancy (summer). Reaching about 12-24 inches tall when in bloom, the plant features grass-like basal foliage emerging early in spring.  And then giving way to a flower stalk topped with an umbel of striking white (often subtly purple-tinged) flowers in late spring. After flowering the foliage fades and the plant goes dormant, making it suitable for planting with summer-dormant companions.

Its low maintenance needs, attractive spring display, pollinator appeal, and adaptability to dry summer conditions make it an excellent choice for rock gardens, native meadows, and slopes in climates with winter/spring moisture and dry summers. Used as a food source by Indigenous peoples.

Flowers attract bees and other early-season pollinators.
