Fargesia dracocephala ‘Rufa’ Clumping Dragon’s Head Bamboo
A small, clumping bamboo species, it is native to China. Thriving in partial to full shade, it's well-suited for USDA zones 5 to 9. This beautiful and cold hardy clumping or noninvasive bamboo prefers moist, well-drained soil and resists harsh winter conditions, making it ideal for a variety of climates. Thrives in areas from Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, to Tennessee, Missouri, Idaho, South Carolina, Oregon, California and Washington State. Does not do well in the hot and humid South East States.
Typically, Fargesia Rufa grows up to 8 - 10 feet tall, forming dense clumps with slender, arching canes. The foliage is lush and green, creating a vibrant, textured appearance.
Ideal for privacy screens, hedges, or as a garden focal point, Fargesia Rufa requires minimal care. It needs regular watering, particularly in dry conditions, and benefits from occasional fertilization.
Unlike some bamboo species, Fargesia Rufa is non-invasive, making it a popular choice for residential landscapes.
