Cryptomeria japonica 'Tansu' / Tansu Japanese cedar
Cryptomeria japonica 'Tansu' is a small, slow growing, very dense, dwarf, multi-stemmed conifer. It's irregular growth habit makes it a perfect Asian-style accent. Tansu has dark green foliage which can turn bronze in winter in colder climates.
Grows in USA zones 6-9 in full sun/ AM sun/dappled sun. Likes well drained acidic soil that does not dry out. Young plants may burn in full sun in southern locations. It is able to do well in areas of salt and urban pollution. Tansu should be protected from cold, dry winds in cold locations. Will reach 3 foot w tall X 28 inches wide in 10 years, depending on how it is pruned.
Ideal for rock gardens, container or bonsai plantings. Anywhere space is limited.
