Easy to grow, this vigorous, upright evergreen shrub with small glossy green leaves puts on a display of colorful fragrant blue blooms in mid spring. This native low maintenance plant grows from British Columbia, south to Mexico in USDA Zones 8-10. Will grow quickly up to 8 foot tall and 10 foot wide. Plant 3-4 foot apart for a hedge or screen.
Not related to Common Lilac (Syringa). Ceanothus grow in areas of cooler summers and milder winters.
Ceanothus is nitrogen fixing, and needs little or no additional fertilizer and little water after establised. A drought tolerant native plant, that is recommended for Defensible Space Firewise Planting. Perfect for Xeriscape Landscapes, hedges, screens, and windbreaks.
Attracts bees and other beneficial insects, butterflies, and birds.
