Blue Moon Kentucky Wisteria (Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon') is an exceptionally cold-hardy, deciduous climbing vine known for producing fragrant, lavender-blue flower clusters up to three times a season.
20-24 inch staked vine.
Hardy in zones 3 through 9, making it the most cold-tolerant wisteria available.
Native to the south-central United States. It is a cultivated selection of the native Kentucky wisteria species rather than an invasive Asian import.
Grows to 15 to 25 feet tall (and wide) as it matures. Vigorous, woody, and twining. It requires a heavy-duty, permanent support structure.
Requires full sun (at least 6 hours daily) for optimal, repeated blooming.
Prefers medium moisture, evenly moist, and well-drained soil. It does not tolerate standing water. Thrives in slightly acidic to neutral soils (ideal pH range of 6.0 to 7.0).
Ideal for training up heavy arbors, sturdy pergolas, large trellises, and robust fences. Excellent as a flowering specimen plant or for creating vertical screening.
Attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its sweet fragrance. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested by humans or pets. It needs strong anchors because mature woody vines become very heavy.
