Harvest Brodiaea (Brodiaea elegans)

A western-North-American perennial corm well suited to gardens that mimic its native dry summer, moist spring regime. It grows from a modest underground corm, sending up basal leaves and then a flower stalk topped with violet-blue blooms in late spring. After flowering the foliage withers and the plant enters dormancy, making it an excellent choice for sites where summer watering ceases or other plants take over. Produces nectar and pollen for pollinators such as bees and butterflies

Its low-maintenance nature, tolerance of dry summer, and neat form make it ideal for rock gardens, dry slopes or native meadows. With proper drainage and sun, it will establish clumps and naturalize over time—plant it with spacing to allow offsets. The corms also carry historical and cultural significance as a food source for Indigenous peoples, which adds a meaningful layer to cultivation.
