The hardiest and best yielding currant. Will grow 4-6 ft tall and up to 5 ft wide in Zones 3 - 8. Makes beautiful and delicious jams, jellies and sauces. Or, add to mixed berries or summer salads for a tart addition. Let fruit stay on plant to ripen fully for fresh eating, this will increase sugar content. Plants are very vigorous and productive. Cherry Red Currants has large, dark red berries with a good acidic flavor.
Makes a great edible landscape plant, grow as a hedge or espalier against a fence. Plant about 2 - 4 feet apart. Cherry Red Currant is self fertile, and will grow in sun or part shade against buildings.
Easy to care for. Mulch with 2 - 3 inches of organic mulch. Prune annually to remove the oldest stems, and apply compost or balanced fertilizer in Spring.
