A gooseberry with very large sweet berries, great for fresh eating. A hybrid between European and American species. Captivator is semi thornless and has large berries that ripen in late July as they turn from pink to dark reddish purple. Very mildew resistant and cold hardy. Developed in Canada. Excellent yellow fall color. One of the best desert quality varieties available. Self fertile. Great for jams, jellies, juice and pies.
Grows 3 - 7 foot tall with a 3 - 5 foot spread in full sun or part shade. Grow as a hedge or espalier against a fence or building. Very drought and heat tolerant. Grows in USDA Zones 3 - 7. Easy to care for.
