Western White Pine (Pinus monticola)

A majestic evergreen conifer native to the mountainous regions of western North America, including the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and the Rocky Mountains. Often found in mixed conifer forests and at elevations of 2,000 to 10,000 feet.

Available as 3-5 inch tall 1 year old plugs.

Thrives in USDA Zones 4-8. Preferring full sun to partial shade and well-draining soils, it adapts to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils with slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5-7.0). This moderate-growing tree reaches heights of 50-100 feet with a spread of 20-30 feet at maturity, forming a pyramidal habit when young and maturing to an open, irregular crown.

Known for its bluish-green needles in bundles of five, and elongated, cylindrical cones, the Western White Pine adds year-round beauty to large spaces, parks, and valued for its lightweight, straight-grained wood used in construction and manufacturing. It is moderately drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, very cold hardy and provides valuable habitat for wildlife. While resilient, it is susceptible to white pine blister rust; planting in well-ventilated areas helps mitigate risk .This conifer is ideal for windbreaks, wildlife gardens, erosion control on slopes, and reforestation.
