Pacific Mist Manzanita (Arctostaphylos ‘Pacific Mist’)
7-10 inch tall 2 year old potted tree.
Good for dry shade and tolerant of heavy soils, Pacific Mist is a spreading ground-cover Manzanita with grey-green leaves that vary depending on location. Inland plants tend to have greyer leaves while those growing along the coast tend to be greener. A hybrid cultivar originating in California, specifically bred for use in drought-prone, coastal areas. Adapted to rocky, sandy soils and Mediterranean climates.
A hardy, evergreen groundcover ideal for USDA Zones 7-10. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, it adapts well to well-draining soils, including sandy and rocky types, with a preference for slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5-7.5). Fast growing compared to other manzanitas, growing to 2-3 feet in height with a sprawling spread of up to 10 feet. This plant forms a dense mat of silvery-green foliage that provides year-round interest. In winter and early spring, it produces small, bell-shaped flowers in pale pink to white, attracting birds, bees and hummingbirds to the garden.
With excellent drought and erosion control capabilities, Pacific Mist Manzanita is an ideal choice for rock gardens, coastal landscapes, and mass plantings. Its minimal maintenance requirements make it a favorite for stabilizing slopes and covering large areas in dry, sunny regions. Deer resistant.
Also makes an excellent bonsai and container plant.
