Northern Red Oak (*Quercus rubra*) is a moderate to fast-growing deciduous tree suitable for USDA Zones 3–8. Thriving in full sun, it prefers acidic to neutral, well-drained soils but adapts to various soil types. This medium to large tree grows approximately 15–20 feet within five years and matures at 60–75 feet in height with a spread of 45–50 feet. Notable for its brilliant red fall foliage, it adds significant visual interest to landscapes.
Native to eastern and central North America, from Nova Scotia west to Minnesota, and south to Georgia and Arkansas.
With moderate drought tolerance and low maintenance requirements, it serves well as a shade or street tree. Its acorns provide food for wildlife, wood is used for furniture, flooring, and general construction. Effective for stabilizing slopes and is Deer Resistant.
