Jeffrey pine is a large coniferous evergreen tree. It is also known as  yellow pine, bull pine and black pine. It grows to 82 to 131 ft tall and 20 to 30 feet wide. Needles are in bundles of three with a rich gray-green,color.
It is very similar to Ponderosa Pine, but it is a smaller in size and is more tolerant to difficult conditions such as higher elevations, poorer soils, colder and dryer climates. Any soil that provides very good drainage, even rocky soil or moist soil, is good. Extremely drought-tolerant. Adapts to cold weather in areas with a short growing season.  Good in USDA Zones 5-8.

Grows as a native in California, western Nevada, southwestern Oregon, and northern Baja California. It does not do well in coastal areas. Plant in full sun to part shade.  Jeffrey pine needs six or more hours of direct sunlight per day.
Jeffrey pine is an important lumber tree, its wood is similar to ponderosa pine.  It provides cover for birds, and small mammals and is deer-resistant.

Also is popular as a bonsai tree because they are hardy and very trainable.

If you are planning to plant in a container for a season, we recommend our Quick Draining Potting Soil Mix.
