Agapanthus 'Storm Cloud' (Lily of the Nile)
A tough clumping perennial noted for its dramatic, deep violet-blue flower clusters that rise 3-4 ft above its lush green foliage. Flowers abundantly from late spring through summer. Flower heads can reach up to 6–9 inches in diameter.
It thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. Avoid planting in waterlogged areas. Storm Cloud needs regular water to establish, then becomes more drought tolerant. Blooms best with consistent moisture. It is excellent for mass plantings, containers or borders, attracting pollinators and providing summer color.
Remove spent flower stalks to encourage re-blooming. Best to leave foliage to feed the underground rhizomes/roots. Clumps can be divided every few years if overcrowded. Plant approximately 1 to 2 feet apart. Feed lightly in early spring and after flowering with a balanced or low-nitrogen fertilizer (like 5-10-15).
Evergreen in warm zones, semi-deciduous in colder areas; hardy to USDA Zones 7B-11. In colder regions (below Zone 7), it should be grown in containers and brought indoors for winter.
