Koralle Lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Koralle')
A compact, low maintenance, upright, evergreen shrub valued for its tart, edible red berries. It forms a low, mat-like groundcover in sunny to partly shaded areas of your garden. Avoid areas of afternoon sun. Leaves are small, glossy, and evergreen. Small bell-shaped blooms in spring are white to pink.
Bright red, edible berries in summer/fall provide Fall and Winter interest to your garden. Koralle is known for heavy fruit production, often bearing two crops a year—one in late summer and another in early fall. The berries are rich in antioxidants and used for sauces, jellies and preserves.
Grows 6-18 inches tall, spreading 1-3 feet wide in USDA Zones 3-7 and Zone 8 on the West Coast. Plant 12 inches apart and mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Will benefit from light spring fertilizer.
Koralle needs well-draining, rich acidic soil (pH 4.0-6.0) and consistent moisture. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Amend soil with peat moss/fir or pine sawdust or pine needles to lower pH. It struggles in alkaline or heavy clay soils.
Koralle thrives in cold climates with large yields and ornamental appeal. While self-pollinating, planting with another variety like 'Red Candy' can increase fruit yields.
If you are planning to plant in a container for a season, we recommend our Lingonberry potting soil mix. If you are planting in the ground we offer individual components to add to your soil if you can not fine them locally. Sawdust should be 10% of your soil mix, plus an additional 2 inches as a mulch to keep soil moist. As sawdust breaks down, it lowers your pH.
This Lingonberry potting soil mix is what professional growers would use for the best growth and performance of their Lingonberry plants.
Components include:
30% - 3/8" minus- Fine Fir Bark, unscreened.

15% - 3/8" minus Natural Cascade Mountain Volcanic Pumice. Unscreened.
