Black Hills Spruce, (Picea glauca var. densata)
A majestic evergreen conifer native to the Black Hills region of South Dakota. This resilient tree thrives in a variety of soil types and climates, ideally suited for USDA zones 4 to 7 and zone 8 on the West Coast.
Black Hills Spruce reaches heights of 20 to 40 feet with a narrow, pyramidal form and dense, layered branches adorned with short, bluish-green needles. Its compact growth habit and symmetrical shape make it an excellent choice for smaller landscapes or as a windbreak in larger areas.
This spruce variety grows in various soil conditions and its resistance to common pests and diseases. Its year-round visual appeal, especially during winter, makes it a sought-after choice for ornamental planting or as a privacy screen.
Provide well-drained soil and ample moisture, especially during its establishment period. Regular watering and mulching aid in maintaining soil moisture and promoting healthy growth.
